Hello Shipmates,
Change in date Shipmates prefered 2008.
I originally sent this to the Yahoo Group about 12-5-06. For the last year we have "talked" about having a reunion for the commissioning year. Well, there have been 15 shipmates to say "lets do it". Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.
So, I am writing about 2 things, one is, my wife and I are leaving to
Vietnam with one of the family's we rescued (see Erich's pics} on
December 27th for 2 weeks. This would not be possible without all of
you and the USS John Young! Thank you all again for being great
shipmates and helping this family. We all appriciate it!
Two, the Reunion for May 2007. I have checked with the Westgate
Hotel in San Diego. I have been going to this Hotel for get-a-ways
and vacations for about 2 years. They have given us a great rate on
hotel rooms and quotes for banquets. Depending how many people
RSVP'd would depend if we want to reserve a banquet room. The
selling point of this Hotel is it is a 5 star Hotel, the location is
the best in San Diego, it is located right downtown, accross the
street is a shopping mall, movies, the Gas Lamp district (lots of
great resturants), behind the hotel is the rail service that you can
catch to other shopping locations, old San Diego, Mexico
etc.......... The point would be, once you are there there is little
driving to do with lots of activities. If you are retired you can go
to Marine World and get 4 free entries (a $200 Value)!
There is even more if you are interested. I am willing to start
putting things together. Please let me know.
Last, I went to the "John Young Store" and have ordered shirts, and
when we are in Vietnam we are going to put them on and go to the
place this family started thier journey and take some pictures,
making this a full round trip from there to a great country the good
ole USA and back. I will put up these pictures when we get back.
