An individual who is selected for officer naval nuclear power training for duty in connection with the supervision, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants may be paid a bonus not to exceed $20,000.

Nuclear Career Annual Incentive Bonus

Under regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Navy, an officer of the naval service who:


  • Is entitled to basic pay;
  • Is not above the pay grade O-6;
  • Has completed his initial obligated active service as an officer;
  • Has, as a commissioned officer, successfully completed training for duty in connection with the supervision, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants; and
  • Has current technical qualifications for duty in connection with the supervision, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants;

may be paid an annual bonus in an amount not to exceed $20,000 for each nuclear service year.

Nuclear Qualified Officers Extending Period of Active Service

A navy nuclear officer who has the current technical qualification for duty in connection with naval nuclear propulsion plants and agrees to remain on active duty in connection with supervision, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants for a period of three, four, or five years, may receive a bonus of up to $25,000 for each year of the active-service agreement.
