The Do-It Yourself (DITY) Move Program
 The Do-It-Yourself (DITY) Move Program

The DITY program is basically a self-help moving program which offers a monetary incentive to active servicemembers who do their own packing, crating and moving of personal property. The government pays the member 95 percent of what it would have cost the government to move the property up to the member’s maximum authorized weight allowance. In return, the servicemember must take care of his/her moving arrangements and expenses.

If you make a DITY move and your total move costs are less than the DITY allowance the government gives you,
you keep the difference. In other words, if you go about your move in an economical manner, you will have money left for yourself -- a nice reward for the time you have personally invested to take care of your move.

For more on how you can take advantage of this program, and the steps you should take to get the most out of your buck, read through this DITY guide.
