The goal of the Navy's new Diversity initiative is about getting
the best that America has to offer. We want to bring in the best
and brightest from all walks of life into the Navy of the
future...not just mirror the make-up of the nation. Our new
Diversity initiative provides a strategic framework that is broken
down into four areas; accessions – who we are bringing in;
training and development – how we build our value system into
every Sailor; organizational alignment – how we continue the
momentum of cultural change; and communications – how we let the
fleet know where we're going, and what we need from them. The
diversity initiative is not just a re-work of the minority affairs
and equal opportunity programs...it goes deeper than that. This
is a move to culturally change the Navy to reflect our core values
-- recognizing the fundamental nature and contributions of every
Sailor.
