The Algerian Government has accused Sudan and Iran as providing aid to the GIA. Other financial backing comes from sympathetic expatriate groups in Europe.

Many of the GIA's soldiers were trained in Afghanistan's terror training camps, and some connections to Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda network are probable.
