Spanish-American War	Apr.-Aug. 1898 - The US gained Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Guam, establishing itself as an imperial power with the defeat of Spain.
The Indian Wars	A series of conflicts was fought between European settlers and the Native Americans, culminating in the Battle of Wounded Knee in 1890.
Mexican War	1846-1848 - The US achieved its "manifest destiny" as the war with Mexico resulted in a border that stretched to the Pacific.
Texas War for Independence	1835-1836 - American settlers revolted against the Mexican government, establishing the Independent Republic of Texas.
