Step 3: Choose the right path

Compare Services: Recruit Training

Here is where the fun begins. Recruit training or better known as boot camp, is where you get in shape, and build the physical skills necessary to meet military standards. Within some service branches, you will also begin training within your specialty field.

 


U.S. Army 9 weeks Basic Combat Training (Plus 1 week in Reception Battalion), followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for MOSs
U.S. Navy 8 weeks Basic Training, followed by Intermediate Training, and Advanced Training for certain specialties
U.S. Air Force 6 weeks (not counting 3-4 day in-processing) Basic Military Training Program (BMT), and Tech School for certain specialties
U.S. Marine Corps 13 weeks Basic Training, followed by Infantry or Combat Training, followed by MOS Training for certain specialties
National Guard 9 weeks Basic Combat Training (Plus 1 week in Reception Battalion), followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for MOSs
U.S. Coast Guard 8 weeks Basic Training, followed by Class A-School training for certain specialties
