Conch Poaching Voyage Terminated U. S. Coast Guard

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard Cutter Sapelo terminated the voyage a 20 foot fishing vessel Saturday, after approximately eighty harvested conch were found separated from their shells.
Queen Conch is legal to be harvested under certain limitations but in all cases the conch must remain in the shell until brought ashore and must measure within certain limits
The two men aboard the 20-foot fishing vessel did not have any identification or vessel registration.
Puerto Rico Police Departments, Forces United for Rapid Action (FURA) unit escorted the fishermen to shore for further investigation of the vessels ownership and the identity of the two men.
Living Marine Resources Protection is one of the Coast Guards many missions. The evidence package for this seizure has been forwarded to National Marine Fisheries Service NMFS who will determine if a formal Notice of Violation (NOVA) will be issued
