Coast Guard Auxiliary Assists Disabled Boat U. S. Coast Guard
January 18, 2005
SEATTLE - A The Coast Guard Auxiliary assisted the master of a 24-foot recreational vessel, disabled Saturday night near Preston Point, Wash.
At 7:10 p.m., Coast Guard Group Seattle received a call from Vessel Assist requesting assistance for a disabled vessel north of Everett. The Coast Guard issued a Marine Assistance Request Broadcast to vessels in the area able to respond to the disabled vessel.
The Coast Guard contacted the Everett Police, but they were unable to respond due to icing on their vessel.
At 7:30 p.m., the Coast Guard dispatched a Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel to assist the disabled vessel. After energizing its orange light, the master of the disabled vessel was able to direct the Auxiliary vessel to his location.
The Auxiliary vessel took the vessel in tow and safely moored it in Everett Marina.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the volunteer branch of the Coast Guard team called upon under all conditions to assist mariners in distress.
