ANNISTON, Ala. - For former Soldiers or those getting ready to leave service from certain military occupational specialties – Anniston Army Depot wants you.

The Alabama depot is currently recruiting workers for a wide range of skilled positions to include: Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic/Repairer (62B, 63A, 63B, 63H);, Artillery Repairer (63D, 63H); Pneudraulic Systems Repairer (62B, 63H) and Small Arms Repairer (63H).

The depot needs workers in these and several other skilled areas because it has experienced a significant workload increase as it resets and recapitalizes equipment, officials said, and aids in up-armoring Humvees in addition to its everyday missions.

Over the past year the depot has hired more than 800 people due to the increased workload. Its current recruiting goal is to fill 385 positions over the next few months. Recruitment for even more positions could materialize based on future assigned workload, Anniston officials said.

These jobs are being offered as "term positions" not to exceed four years and will provide employees with all benefits and have the potential to be converted to permanent as vacancies become available.

The Veterans Readjustment Act applies. The three categories of veterans who are eligible for a non-competitive VRA appointment are:

- Disabled veterans;

- Veterans who have been awarded a Campaign Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or Armed Forces Service Medal;

- Recently separated veterans (separated from active service within the last three years).

Jack Cline, Anniston's deputy to the commander, said, "Our basic intent in this recruitment process is to identify individuals who have the required skills and experience relating to the many systems that we upgrade and repair. We feel that there may be recently retired service members or some who may be considering retirement who may be looking for employment where they can further use their military-learned skills."

The depot's workforce performs maintenance on all heavy and light-tracked combat vehicles (except for the Bradley and Multiple Launch Rocket System) and their components. Anniston is designated as the Center of Technical Excellence for the M-1 Abrams Tank as well as for the repair of the M-60 Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge, M-728 and M-88 combat vehicles. The depot has assumed responsibility for the towed and self-propelled artillery as well as the M-113 family of vehicles.

Anniston is also the small arms repair facility for the Department of Defense and performs maintenance on individual and crew-served weapons as well as land combat missiles and small arms.
