Titled "In Their Own Words: Lessons Learned in Today's Military," the blog aims to provide a platform for servicemembers, veterans and families to share their thoughts and experiences on a variety of topics. More Job Program Helps Wounded Vets The Recovery and Employment Assistance Lifelines program helps wounded servicemembers and veterans to transition back into the civilian sector. More Stop-Loss Pay Available Thousands of current and former Airmen remain eligible to receive $500 in retroactive special pay for each month they were affected by stop loss. Airmen have until Oct. 21 to apply through the Air Force Personnel Center. More Gulf War: The 20th Anniversary On Aug. 2, 1990, Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait, initiating the first Gulf War. By June 1991, 697,000 men and women had served in what became Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Voting has officially begun. More House Conducts Vet Jobs Hearing The House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity recently held a hearing to examine programs developed by the Department of Labor, Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs to assist veterans transitioning from a military to civilian career. More Test Results Released The Department of Veterans' Affairs recently released the results of tests taken by dental patients at the John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis.
