    Agent Orange Likely Used in Okinawa
    The U.S. Board of Veterans' Appeals found in 1998 that the defoliant Agent Orange was probably used in Okinawa during the Vietnam War era. This finding is part of a recently uncovered ruling in favor of a former U.S. serviceman who was seeking compensation for prostate cancer that he blamed on his work. More

    Illinois Unveils Mental Health Services
    All Illinois National Guard troops returning from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan will be now screened for traumatic brain injury and get access to post-traumatic stress disorder help under a new, first-of-its-kind state program. The program includes mandatory traumatic brain injury screening. More

    National Suicide Crisis Hot Line Coming
    The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is establishing a 24-hour, national suicide prevention hot line beginning Aug.31, 2007 that will be based at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center in New York state. The hot line will operate seven days a week, 24-hours a day. More

    VA Spreads Blame for Data Loss
    According to a recent report by the VA's inspector general, an information technology worker at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs did not properly secure data stored on an external hard drive that was lost or stolen in January. Then he initially lied about the scope of the data breach. More

    Wisconsin Launches Operation Quit Tobacco
    More than 300 Wisconsin troops and veterans have enrolled in Operation Quit Tobacco, which provides free medication and coaching on how to quit smoking and chewing tobacco to military personnel who call the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669). More

    Senator Murray Hires Veterans to Fill Key Positions
    U.S. Senator Patty Murray announced that she has filled two key staff positions in her state offices. Kim Brown, Command Master Chief (MCPO) 13th District of the U.S. Coast Guard is now Senator Murray's Senior Constituent Services Representative for Veterans and Military Casework. More

    Military Spouse Magazine Announces 2007 Who's Who
    The 2007 Who's Who of Military Spouses list recognizes military spouses who have made significant contribution in the military community for all military spouses. The leaders of the military spouse community were chosen based on their service-wide appeal, commitment to military spouses and professional development. More

    Education Benefits Run Out for Too Many
    More than 40 percent of Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits go unused each year because G.I. Bill benefits have an expiration date. Currently, the program pays more than $1,000 a month for 36 months to eligible candidates. Get in contact with the VA, they will let you know if the school is accredited by their terms. More

    Exchanges Offer Disc-Like Gift Certificates
    The Army & Air Force Exchange Service's (AAFES) newest series of flat, disc-like gift certificates known as "POGs" are being introduced to servicemembers at more than 60 Base/Post Exchanges throughout Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. POGs can be redeemed at any AAFES exchange in the world. More

    Foundation Raises Awareness
    "The Greer Foundation raises public awareness of the sacrifices of serving the nation through outreach and commentary on the war on terror," said Steve Greer, the group's founder. The Greer Foundation's main focus is educating the public about the troops' sacrifices through radio and TV commentary. More

    Pentagon Channel Debuts Documentary

    TRICARE Redesigns Website
    Beneficiaries should find it easier to find answers to their TRICARE questions at the newly-redesigned My Benefit portal at the TRICARE website. A key feature of the redesign is that users will now receive personalized information about their health care benefits by answering a few simple questions. More

    Foundation Supports Families
    The 9-11 Help America Foundation's mission is to recognize and support the families of fallen and wounded warriors. For the past six years, the foundation focused on providing monthly financial support to wounded servicemembers and families of the fallen. More

    Military Spouse Magazine Art Director Designs Spouse Monument
    The Military Spouse Legacy Association announced the Military Spouse Monument in Norfolk, VA this past Monday. The monument will symbolize the military spouse and her strength and courage. This monument honors the spouse and window, from the battlefields of the Revolutionary War to today. More

    VA to Hire Additional Claims Processors
    As chairman of the appropriations subcommittee over veterans spending, Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, oversaw approval of $61 million in funding to hire 400 additional claims processors across the nation. New legislation would provide an additional $126 million to hire 700 more claims processors across the country. More

    Law Firms Fight for Wounded Warriors
    Wounded soldiers who allege that the government is downplaying their injuries and cheating them out of benefits have some new legal ammunition: three major law firms offering free legal services. Concerned that injured soldiers are getting a raw deal upon returning home, three firms have offered to do pro bono work. More
