  • The rank of Lance Corporal (LCpl) was first used by the Marines in the Indian Wars of the 1830s. Lance Corporal is your next step in becoming an integral part of the Marine Corps. As a Marine Corps LCpl you are expected continue to apply your technical training, in addition to learning and developing your leadership skills. You will be expected to follow all orders and tasking given by higher-ranked supervisors.

    The PFC Promotion Process
Company commanders have the authority to promote active duty enlisted Marines to the rank of LCpl (E-3) when they have completed nine months Time-in-Service and eight months Time-in-Grade. This promotion is virtually automatic for those who meet the basic promotion criteria.
