we were both from redding calif. at the time we entered the army in early 1967.we lost contact with one another until i ran into him at camp eagle in 1969. he initially was going into the green berets but failed the medical test. he winds up being sent to vietnam 1968 as a medic with the 25th inf. in the cu chi area. i was with G battery 55th arty. in support of the 101st abn. div. in the A Shau Valley. it is unclear to me how i found out that he had gotten the job of chaplains asst. at camp eagle. i was back in the rear one day at 101st HQ and we hooked up. i couldnt believe my eyes but there he was in his hootch with a rucksack he would never use again and by this time he had acquired plenty of confessional wine that we proceeded to get wasted on. we talked about old times and about back home, it was great. the next day i had to get back out to my unit at LZ Bastogne and never saw him again. ive done many web searches but to no avail. |
