My grandpa Rademacher, aka Papa Toby, served in Germany during the Korean War. He trained soldiers in the infantry division. I think the best story I've heard about Papa Toby is when all of the units were on a road march, snow up to your hips, and the Commanding Officer leading this march would rotate through the units and have them lead the way, making the path. When he called on my grandfather, he was about 5' 3 or so, the CO told him to make a path for the rest of them and the only thing my grandfather asked was "how wide?". That's my Papa Toby, he's never backed down from anything that I know of, and he's one stubborn old crumudgen. I'll try to get a photo up here soon.
