My Father grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was 18 in 1941 at the start of World War 11. He was drafted along with his brother Salvatore+ in the U.S. Army. His brother was killed in combat during the War and received a purple heart for his service. My father named his first son Salvatore in honor of his brother+. I believe my father served in the 3rd armored division and was on the front lines as a General Technician! He served the full 4 years of the War from 1941 to 1944. He tells me stories of meeting General Patton and said his division was know as the Ghost's of Patton's Army! That is because they were specialized in suprise attacks and alternate routes. Some times he said he was so far in the front lines he was in the towns including Germany. He also drove a tank and did radio operations! He was very happy the War had ended and went to Fordam and N.Y.U. on the G.I. Bill. He majored in Physical Education and also played semi-pro baseball! Baseball is his favorite sport and ...More
