(Winston Churchill) A grateful Prime Minister on behalf of an even more grateful nation penned the above words to thank the men and women of the RAF for their unmatched service during a most crucial time in the history of Great Britain. Yet the mastermind behind it all is none other than Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Caswell Tremenheere Dowding. If not for his brilliant foresight in planning and procurement, his peerless leadership during a most critical moment in history, and his tireless service to his nation and airmen under his command, the Battle of Britain may well have been the trumpet signal of the end of Great Britain, and quite possibly the beginning of the downfall of the free world during those dark hours of World War II.
