World War II, Korean War, Vietnam and Iraq War vets marched past the Marietta town square on the Fourth of July, but they left no lasting footprints on the pavement when they were gone. Only a few yards away, Rebels had pursued Yankees north toward Chattanooga in the Great Locomotive Chase one hundred and forty years before. Only The General remains, their footprints also gone long ago, but they had been there once, their spirits stayed on.
