Robert John Stark from Chicago, IL served our country from 1966-1967 in the Republic of Vietnam. SP4 Stark served in company B, 1st battalion, 12th infantry, 4th infantry division. Awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in combat during a heliborne assault into an LZ in Kontum Province of Vietnam on 16 March 1967. "SP4 Stark was one of the first to arrive at the LZ and was met with heavy fire from NVA regulars firing from prepared emplacements. SP4 Stark assisted in setting up the 81mm mortars after landing in the LZ. Although exposed to enemy sniper fire and occasional mortar fire, SP4 Stark requested permission to move to the perimeter where the lead elements of the company were engaged in a vicious firefight and outnumbered. Crossing open ground and under heavy fire, SP4 Stark reached the line and was able to add his firepower to that of his comrades with devastating effect.
