He was an OSS, forerunner of the CIA, officer in WW2. They parachuted in 3 man tm's into S. France as civilians and helped the French Resistance in UW missions against the Germans. In December 1944, recieved an extraordinary mission: recruit & train 170 anti-Nazi German POWs & defectors who would jump with him into the Austrian Alps posing as a German mountain infantry company. His Top Secret mission, called "Iron Cross," was to capture Nazi leaders, including Hitler. They were expected to take refuge there as the war ended. But in Apr. '45 -after 3 months of trng- it was cancelled. Bank was then ordered to jump into Lao's to search for Japanese POW camps; his Tm. located 165 French POWs in the Vientiane area. He serverved in Korea w/ the 187th RCT. In 1952 he was charged w/ the creation of the 10th Special Forces Grp (ABN), the 1st SF GRP. He retired in 1958.
