On June 15, 1985, Andre Lamont Anderson a native Washingtonian graduated from Spingarn Sr. High School at age 17. Not quite an adult, Andre knew his calling and set out to join the US Navy. At age 17, he was not old enough to enlist without parental consent, so he begged his Mom to sign the paperwork, and she did. On July 09, 1985 at age 17 he left behind his Mom and 8 siblings to take his place in the world with the US Navy. Andre's warm personality and sense of humor attracted many friends. His commitment and eagerness to serve his country was recognized with many honors during his period of service with the U.S. Navy. At age 19 Andre met Emma (Lorraine) Evans, they later married and had 2 daughters. Andre loved his family and was as committed to them as he was to his career. BM1Andre Anderson at age 37 had completed 19 years 11 months and 11 days of service with the U.S. Navy and was looking forward to retirement.
