My father,Darrell K Blake, was loved by each and every one of his children. There are 7 of us all together.By being the last of 3 daughters I didn't get to know him as well as my other siblings.But I was the "apple of his eye",the quinticential "daddy's girl". By the time I came along he was alot older & wasn't able to to the things he used to.I married at age18 and I didn't see him much after that.I regret that now.
I have heard that he,among other soldiers were of the lucky bunch. I have heard stories of Jeeps blowing up near him,his bunk blowin up right after he left it,and one time the "privy?"(toilet). I respect what my father did for our country and the suffering he went through.I feel ashamed for all the ridicule him and the rest of the Vietnam & even Korean vets went through when they got home. I would like for people ,if they knew him, to tell me alittle of who he was "back then".
