 Tribute:
Anthony Althoff was born in San Diego, CA in 191926. He was raised by a sheep herder. He joined the Army at the age of 17, and immediately after his initial training he was shipped off with the 101st Airborne Divisions' 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne, the Ardeinnes Forest, and many other unforgiving places. My grandfather never got a medal of honor, but he was truly a hero. He was awarded the bronze star, two purple hearts, and a multitude of other decorations including his parachutist wings, his combat infantrymans badge, and expert infantrymans badge. He remained in the Army after WWII serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd Infantry Division, among others. He retired at the rank of CSM after 30 years of faithful service to his country.
