Thomas Hudner was born on August 31, 1924, in Fall River, MA. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1946, and entered flight training in April 1948, earning his wings in 1949. During the Korean War, Thomas Hudner was awarded the Medal of Honor for crashing his aircraft in an attempt to rescue a downed aviator. Capt Hudner served in many important positions after the war, ending his career as Technical Training Officer on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. He retired from the Navy in 1973.
