Martin O'Donovan  (Bonovan)

 Rank,  Service

E-1 Private, Marine Corps

 Veteran of:

World War-II

 Tribute:
I remember heroic Bonovan storming several German machine-gun nests during the Ardennes campaign in late '44 and almost single-handednly clearing their foxholes. He saved my life twice, and he must've saved the other guys in the unit too: The Belgian, The Frenchman, The Monkey, Smithers and McMeek. He was killed near Bastogne on 28 December 1944 by the German grenades we used to call 'bean tins'. I reckon the 'bean tins' were meant for the Frenchman, but Bonovan pushed him out the way and sacrificed his own life. He saved Smithers life too, but couldn;t stop the guy from being blinded.
