Bill Renken of Smithfield, Nebraska entered the Army on July 9th, 1941. He was 26 years old. He had been working on the family farm and a large irrigation project operating heavy equipment & trucks. He traveled by train from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to the Field Artllery Replacement Training Center; Camp Roberts, California for basic training. He successfully completed the Basic Training course for Field Artillery on October 9th, 1941. (more to come)
