  • Morgenthau Plank Owner Reunion Update: My name is Steven G. Thomas. I proudly served on the Mighty Morgenthau, as an original member of the commissioning crew, from 1969 to 1970. A reunion for all plank owners has been planned for October of 2005. The reunion will consist of two parts; (1) a cruise aboard the Dawn Princess embarking from San Francisco on Oct 11th, 2005 and sailing to Catalina Island, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, San Diego, and returning to San Francisco on Oct. 21st. So far seven members have booked reservations. (2) a three day stay at the Andrews Hotel, a beautiful European style boutique hotel in the heart of San Francisco near to all the famous SF attractions. A tour of the Morgenthau at Coast Guard Island in Alameda, CA, with the Morgenthau command hosting a luncheon for the plank owners, will be the major highlight of the reunion. Members interested in the reunion may contact me at stevengthomas@military.com for more information. As part and parcel of planning the 3rd Morgenthau Plank Owner Reunion, I have also created a limited edition fine art print of the Mighty Morg as she appeared shortly after commissioning in 1969. These prints were initially available to plank owners earlier this year but are now available to all who have served aboard the Morgenthau at any time during her service to our nation. If you would like more information on how to view and obtain one of these prints, please email me.
