Eisenhower. Normal military police duties were quickly assumed in the devastated and dangerous city and skirmishes between members of the battalion and other US troops were not uncommon, attesting to the state of affairs. The battalion continued its discipline, law and order mission in the months following World War II. Among its many missions was a five months mission in late 1946,which tasked the battalion to provide security of the Litchfield War Crimes Trial at Bad Nauheim. On 5 December 1947, all elements of the battalion were consolidation in the Gutleut Kaserne and all security in the city of Frankfurt was a 709th responsibility. The year 1953 brought a new mission to the 709th that required complex reorganization. The battalion assumed responsibility of Military Police service support in central West Germany. Headquarters, Company A and elements of Company C, remained in Frankfurt. Co D was headquartered in Giessen with detachments located in Butzbach, Bad Nauheim and Kassel. The Battalion Headquarters vacated Gutleut Kaserne, Frankfurt, in June of 1964 and displaced to Funari Barracks, Mannheim, in anticipation of reorganization under the COSTAR concept and the activation of the 2nd Military Police Group. TOE 19-35 became effective and caused the fourth company, Company D, to be de-activated, while Company B, 709th MP BN was distributed among Giessen, Butzbach, Hanau, Kassel and Fulda. Company B was the most widely dispersed unit in the battalion. It coveres an area of approximately 3,300 square miles, adjacent to the border between West Germany and the Soviet held zone. The Company headquarters was in Bamberg, a picturesque old town which is a historical combination of modern and ancient architecture. The city is located on and divided by the Main River, 35 miles north of Nurnberg. In addition to the Company headquarters, the First Platoon minus one Squad (-1) under the supervisiion of the Platoon Leader is in Bamberg. Approximately 35 miles north west of Bamberg is the Second Platoon, located at Schweinfurt, a sub-post of Bamberg. The Platoon Leader is also the Provost Marshal at Schweinfurt sub-post. At Bad Kissingen, a colorful resort town, a Detachment composed of one (1) platoon sergeant from the First Platoon. The Platoon Sergeant performs MP duty under the operational control of Fulda Post.
