the call sign for 537th and 382nd was overtake delta bravo charlie etc in 1957 to nov 1958.ours at mainz was overtake delta. I dont know why it just was and our signal s were sig. oo to sig 22 sig oo was mp in trouble or hurry up you guys I got all I can handle sig 22 was out of service at usually holy ghost restraurant and night club the lady mom was a generous older lady we all called mom. she had a secret room behind the kitchen for us to eat our midnight snacks. as we assumed our dutys of mostly closing the night clubs and keeping order. while we did that each club had a different closing time to give us time to get from one to the other about 30 minutes to an hour apart according to how big the establishment was. we then patroled the streets looking for soldiers who tended to get in trouble after the est closed. we maintained one patrol to cover accidents and emergencys while we did our closings. The average soldier thought we were there to do him in but its hard to help some one who wont be helped. like getting in before curfew etc. I personally carried soldiers thru the gates to keep them from being arrested at the gate by the gate guards. . but some how this never seemed to be appreciated. one such incident was when I picked up a drunk and was taking him to his unit passed out and he woke up and hit me in the back of the head with a shoe. after I got his shoes a way from him I still carried him to his unit. The next night we had courtesy patrols from the 8th inf airborne unit. and who was among them but the guy who hit me with his shoe. I called him to one side and said you had better be straight tonite and from here after. and he was I never ever had any more trouble with this soldier I guess it was worth the shoe on the head after all. just a few of my adventures in mainz germany
thanks guys
