BG J.P. Holland Award to the 284th MP Co
Brigadier General (BG) Jeremiah P. Holland initiated an award that is presented to the best company or smaller element in the Military Police Corps. He wanted to promote esprit de corps and recognize the unit that had displayed excellence during a 12-month period (1 October to 30 September)--the best in the Military Police Corps. The award (a trophy and letter) is based on total unit accomplishments, encompassing every phase of activity bearing directly on mission accomplishment. He donated $2,500 to establish the award and asked that the first award be presented on the Corps's anniversary. Major General Karl W. Gustafson then developed the procedures and established the award program on 18 August 1969. The first award was presented on 26 September 1970.
**Awarded during 1977 to the 284th MP Company, Frankfurt, Germany.
