2/67th Armor, 4th AD 1957-60
The 4th Armored Division was Reactivated in 1957 to replace the 2nd Armored in Germany. Regular Army officers and NCO's were transfered to Ft. Hood, TX and became the cadre that trained the flood of draftees and enlistees into the best Armored division in NATO. After 7 months of intensive training, the division gyroed over to Germany, took over the equipment of 2nd Armored and settled into their new homes. 2/67th Armor was stationed at Montieth Barracks, Furth,Germany at the previous home of the Luftwaffe Air Academy. The next two years passed quickly with constant training, field exercises, and alerts in any weather. The equipment and personnel were ready to go to the assigned positions at a moments notice and more than once were required to do so. The mutual respect and the teamwork of the Officers, NCOs, and Enlisted troops made the time spent there to be very special. All of us were proud to be 4th Armored TANKERs!
