From the 504th MP Bn Yearbook (1994) :
"On 12 February 1944 the Company [571st] was constituted into the 504th MP Battalion as the 71st Military Police Company. The unit was activated on 29 November 1944 in Algeria and saw action in WWII at the battles of Rome-Arno and Rineland. The 71st Military Police Company was inactivated on 29 November 1945 at Camp Clairborne, Louisiana. The 71st Military Police Company was redisignated as the 571st Military Police Company on 12 April 1949 at Fort Jay, New York. The unit was deactivated on March 28 1955 in Japan. The 571st Military Police Company was reactivated under the 504th Military Police Battalion at the Presidio of San Francisco on 11 January 1971. The company later moved to Fort Ord, California. While at Ft. Ord, the 571st earned two joint Meritorious Unit Citations with streamers for participation in "Operation Golden Pheasant" (Honduras 1989) and "Operation Restore Hope" (Somalia 1993). On 16 September 1993, the 571st Military Police Company moved to its current location, Fort Lewis Washington. The 571st Military Police Company has a proud history of being called upon in times of crisis with short notice to perform special missions that only a well trained and equipped unit can perform."
