"SOUTH PACIFIC"
September and October of 1957 saw a break in our normal routine
when the Lipan was chosen to assist in the filming of “South Pacific.”
Some of the crew, dreams of stardom and awe on their faces,
appeared briefly in the movie. Roy even got to become a Jarhead.

1956--Crew is stabilized until 1 October which results in about 50% new personnel. Interim wash-down system is installed.
1956--Departs Pearl for Eniwetok with YON-182 in tow on 12 March. Arrives 29 March. Anchored until 13 April when Lipan departs for Bikini and remains there until 21 July... More |

Launched: 17 September, 1942.
Commissioned: USS LIPAN (AT-85), 29 APRIL, 1943.
Designated: Fleet Ocean Tug (ATF-85), 15 May, 1944
Assigned to MSC in 1972 and placed in service as USNS LIPAN (T-ATF-85)
Placed Out of Service, c. 1980 and transferred, on loan, to the Coast Guard.
