Just a quick correction on the date the Intrepid was decommissioned, the actual date was MARCH (not NOV) 1974. I was a JO3 serving as the ship's last PAO. After the decom ceremony, I was escorting a local television crew on the flight deck for some last shots. Little did I know that the shipyard secured the brow with a lock. After the TV crew had completed all their shots, we started to leave and went to the brow. There was a gate on the brow and it was locked. Once we waved down a security guard at the head of the pier, he unlocked the gate and made a note in his log about our misfortune. I guess you can call me the last INTREPIDMAN off the ship.
