Histories for USS Kitty Hawk - CV 63

Dead in the Water
2005 Before hitting Sydney Austrlia on the yearly summer cruise the bells went crazy. First, MAJOR STEAM LEAK 2AMR Second, MAJOR STEAM LEAK 1AMR Third, Smoke in 1MMR Fourth, Smoke in 4MMR Fifth, Loss of pressure, 3MMR All happened within 15 minutes of each other and were unrelated MINUS 3MMR going down, the lack of pressure from 1 and 4 shut it down. 2MMR was the only main space still in operation and the ship was dead in the water. We all waited tensely with our flash gear in hand, pants tucked in and sleeves rolled down chain smoking for 2 huors waiting for our chance to help the Engineers who were trying to set everything straight in 140 degree heat near the equator with no vents, no power and no masks... Water and ice were rushed down to all the main spaces in all the coolers we had on board. Luckily, no one died and no one was seriously injured, lots of heat stress and one or two cases of heat stroke but everyone recovered.
