He was aboard the ship when it got hit and was sent home because they had to operate on his shoulder. They put a wire in his arm and connected it to his shoulder. He died in 2007. He didn't talk much about the ordeal. |

I came aboard the Sara in Naples after 2yrs shore duty at Mare Island, and 6 mos. with Sea Lab ll. Drakes Bay, Cal. I was in S2 Div. CS2, food office, Warrant Off. I was on the 58 cruise that puth the Saratogo's planes flying combat patrols in the Lebanon Crisis. All members of the Saratoga's crew were awarded the Navy Expeditary Medal, which entitled me to join the VFW. Have great memories of the Saratog, hope to attend the reunion in Indy this September 2008 |
