USS Princeton - CV 37 - History
Princeton (CV-37) was commissioned 18 November 1945. In July 1946 she joined the 7th Fleet in the Marianas, becoming flagship of TF 77 until February 1947. Princeton was decommissioned in June 1947 and recommissioned 28 August 1950. On 5 December she joined TF 77 off the Korean coast. Princeton made three Korean War deployments. In January 1954 Princeton was reclassified CVS-37 and began antisubmarine training operations in the Pacific. Reclassified LPH-5, amphibious assault carrier, in March 1959, she began a long affair with the Marine Corps. In April 1962, Princeton delivered Marine Corps advisors and helicopters to the Republic of South Vietnam. Princeton made four deployments in support of Vietnam combat operations. Following 24 years of service to her country Princeton was decommissioned on 30 January 1970.



Awards: Princeton received the Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation and 8 battle stars for service during the Korean Conflict.
