First Duty Station USS. Enterprise CVAN 65
My first duty station straight out of boot camp april 1969 was the USS.ENTERPRISE CVAN6. Caught up to her in the at Norfolk NAS/Newport News Shipyard. We were there for Fire Damage and refuel. 12 months later we left the shipyards for carrier qualfications in the North Alantic and then then to RIO for 10 days R&R WOW! . We left RIO going around the Horn on to San Fransico, Alamada NAS. we picked up our Air Wing and munitions and we were West Pac bound arriving Yankee Station 1971 with R&R stops in the Phililines( longa pow city )and Singapore our duty didnt stop there we were pulled off of rotation and sent to the coast of india and pakistan during their War. we evacuated 90+ civilians in harms way after that we returned to our duty yankee station Vietnam my tour abruptly ended in oct.1972 when my wife became terminally Ill with cancer I was flown to San Fransico to complete my duties at Hunters Point naval shipyard and Treasure Island Training School. I finished my tour of duty in april 1973 and one year later I lost my wife to cancer. and 37 years later I can still remember all the excitement of being a young sailor belonging to the USS.ENTERPRISE CVAN 65. Ironically as thing come to pass I reside in a wonderful Southeast Alabama City of ENTERPRISE With great memories of being on the BIG "E"
