Histories for 41st Signal Battalion

KONTUM ADVISORS CAMP DET. 4
ABOUT A MONTH AFTER ARRIVAL, MAYBE AUGUST '65. THE ARVN COMPOUND WAS ATTACKED BY V.C. AT NIGHT. A QUARTER MILE OR LESS FROM US. MY JOB CHANGED REAL QUICK. FROM TELEPHONE OPERATOR TO GRUNT IN TRENCH! HAD MY M-14 AND M-79. COULD SEE THE TRACERS FLYING. OUR MORTARS FIRED FLARES. WE THOUGHT FOR SURE THEY WOULD HIT US. 30 V.C. KILLED, DON'T KNOW HOW MANY ARVN. UNDERSTAND DURING TET '68 500 N.V.A. WERE KILLED IN OUR COMPOUND. ONLY ABOUT A HUNDRED GUYS THERE AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THEY FOUGHT LIKE TIGERS! HAD ONLY SIX WOUNDED ON OUR SIDE. OVERRAN FOR SIX DAYS.
