Histories for 79th Engineer Battalion

Supply Clerk, Co. C, 79th Tim Cantrell
I joined C company in November, 1961. At that time, my company was building a missle site in Freising, Germany. I became the Supply Clerk and held that job in Freising, Pirmasens, and Sweinfurt over the next three years. It was a great experience and I made a lot of friends. My two best friends were Dennis Libertoski from Upper Michigan, and Milton Turner from Memphis. We have been life long friends and we are getting together again later this month.(November, 2005) We also made friends with a German family near the Pirmasens base. In October, 2005, I revisited Pirmasens and found that all the buildings on the base are still standing and in better shape than they were when we were there, and my German friends still live in the same house. I even got to see my old German girlfriend. I took a lot of pictures of the base. Americans moved away years ago, but Pirmasens, and the Parkbrau is still the same. Even the Turmshanke is still in operation. I would like to hear from others who shared this experience in Pirmasens. My e-mail is twig1943@aol.com Tim Cantrell Supply Clerk C Company Later, I joined the US Army Reserves and retired an E-8.
