13th Engineer Battalion - History
13th ENGINEER BATTALION



Constituted 14 March 1917 in the National Army as the 3d Reserve Engineers and organized 5 May 1917 at Chicago, Illinois. Redesignated 9 June 1917 as 3d Engineers, National Army. Redesignated 13 July 1917 as 13th Engineers (Standard Gauge Railway Operation Regiment). Demobilized 15 May 1919 at Camp Grant, Illinois. Reconstituted 13 January 1921 in the Regular Army as the 13th Engineers (General Service) and activated at Camp Humphreys, Virginia. Redesignated 18 May 1925 as 13th Engineer General Service Regiment. Assigned to the 4th Division on 15 August 1927. Reorganized and redesignated 31 August 1926 as the 13th Engineers (Combat). Relieved from the 4th Division and assigned to the 8th Division on 18 August 1933. Relieved from the 8th Division and assigned to the 7th Division on 10 January 1936. Redesignated 16 October 1939 as the 13th Engineer Battalion. Activated 1 July 1940 at Camp Ord, California. Redesignated 9 April 1942 as the 13th Engineer Motorized Battalion. Reorganized and redesignated 1 January 1943 as the 13th Engineer Combat Battalion. Redesignated 1 March 1954 as the 13th Engineer Battalion (Combat). Inactivated 2 April 1971 at Fort Lewis, Washington. Activated 21 July 1975 at Fort Ord; inactivated 15 September 1993 at Fort Ord.
