HISTORY OF B BTRY 1/2 ADA
THIS HISTORY IS AS INSERTED INTO YEAR BOOK OF B BATTERY, 1ST BATTALION, 2ND AIR DEFENSE ARTILLERY, 38TH AIR DEFENSE BRIGADE.
Company E of the 2d Artillery Regiment recognizedas the beginning of the 1st Msl Bn, 2 ADA was organized on 1 June 1821. Since that time the Battalion has served in most of the prominent battles of our nation's history, the unit has earned forty-five battle streamers from the War of 1812 through World War II. Following WWII,the unit was in-activated until 27 February 1961 when the unit began Basic Unit Training at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Upon completion of it's training on 9 Sept. 1961, the main party of the Battalion departed San Francisco aboard the MSTS General H. Gaffey bound for Inchon, South Korea. By mid November, the Battalion wasfully operational andintegratedinto the Army Air Defense System of the Republic of Korea. The Battalion Commander during the intire period of activation, training, movement, and assumption of the Air Defense Mission in Korea was LTC J. C. Fimiani. On 1 August 1964, a unit redesignation took place in accordance with General Order 22, Headquarters, 38th Artillery Brigade (AD). This action resulted in Battery A, 6th Battalion (HAWK), 44th Artillery being redesignated as Battery D, 7th Missile Battalion (HAWK), 2nd Artillery and Battery D, 6th Battalion (HAWK), 2nd Artillery being redesignated as Battery A, 6th Missile Battalion (HAWK), 44th Artillery.
Headquarters, 1st Missile Battalion, 2nd ADA is presently located (as of 1975)at Si-Hung Compound, approximately 10 miles south of Seoul, Korea. Under the command of Major Norman E. Jarock, the Battalion consists of four firing batteries stratigically located from Seoul to Osan, in order to fulfill its mission of providing air defense against low and medium flying enemy aircraft.
