Lineage and Honors 192nd Field Artillery Batt
DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY Lineage and Honors 192nd Field Artillery Battalion Parent unit constituted in 1672 as the Regiment of Fairfield County, Connecticut and composed of train bands from towns in that county Reorganized 11 October 1739 in part as the 9th Regiment of Militia, consisting of companies in Norwalk, Stamford, Greenwich and Ridgefield Elements participated in the campaign around New York in 1776, Battle of Saratoga (1777), Danbury Raid (1777) and the New Haven Alarm (1779) Consolidated 22 June 1847 with the 4th and 16th Regiments of Militia to form the 8th Regiment of Militia, Fairfield County The following volunteer companies were formed from elements and personnel of the 8th Regiment, which maintained its identify as a State Militia unit during the Civil War period: Rifle Company B and Infantry Company E, 1st Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment mustered in 22-23 April 1861; mustered out 31 July 1861 Companies D and I, 6th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment, mustered in 5 September 1861; mustered out 21 August 1865 Companies E and G, 23d Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment, mustered in 14 November 1862; mustered out 1 September 1863 Company D, 7th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment, mustered in 5 September 1861; mustered out 11 August 1865 Company B, 28th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment, mustered in 15 November 1862; mustered out 28 August 1863 Redesignated 6 July 1865 as 8th Infantry Regiment, Connecticut National Guard (4th Infantry Regiment [Litchfield County] consolidated with the 8th Infantry Regiment, 27 July 1865) Redesignated 26 July 1871 as the 4th Infantry Regiment Consolidated 5 October 1903 with the 3d Infantry Regiment (constituted in 1672 as the Regiment of New London County) 3d Infantry Regiment converted and redesignated 14 December 1907 as Coast Artillery Corps, Connecticut National Guard Companies of Coast Artillery Corps mustered into Federal service, 3 April and 25 July 1917 Redesignated 31 August 1917 as Companies 26-38, Coast Defenses of Long Island Sound Demobilized 12-16 December 1918, with exception of Companies 26, 27, 37 and 38, which on 20 December 1917 had been redesignated Supply Company and Batteries F, E, B and D, respectively, 56th Coast Artillery; these elements demobilized 20 January - 1 February 1919 at Fort Schuyler, New York Elements reorganized 1 March 1921 as 1st Coast Artillery, Connecticut National Guard Redesignated 23 May 1921 as the 192d Artillery, Coast Artillery Corps Redesignated 3 November 1921 as the 192d Field Artillery; 2d Battalion organized and Federally recognized 8 November with Headquarters at Danbury Inducted into Federal service 24 February 1941 at home stations as an element of the 43d Division 2d Battalion reorganized and redesignated as the 192d Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 43d Division (subsequently the 43d Infantry Division), 19 February 1942 Inactivated 22 October 1945 at Camp Stoneman, California (Headquarters, 192d Field Artillery [reconstituted 25 August 1945] consolidated with the 192d Field Artillery Battalion, 31 May 1946) Reorganized in southwestern Connecticut and Federally recognized 18 October 1946 with Headquarters at Stamford Ordered into active Federal service 5 September 1950 at Stamford (192d field Artillery Battalion [NGUS] organized and Federally recognized 20 October 1952 in southwestern Connecticut with Headquarters at Stamford) Released from active Federal service and reverted to State control, 15 June 1954; concurrently, Federal recognition withdrawn from the 192d Field Artillery Battalion (NGUS) Consolidated with the 242d Artillery, 1 May 1959 HOME STATION: Eastern Connecticut CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION CREDIT Revolutionary War Saratoga New York 1776 Connecticut 1777 Connecticut 1778 Civil War Bull Run Cold Harbor Petersburg Georgia 1862 South Carolina 1862 South Carolina 1863 Louisiana 1863 North Carolina 1865 World War I Aisne-Marne Oise-Aisne Meuse-Argonne Champagne 1918 World War II-AP Guadalcanal New Guinea Northern Solomons Luzon (with arrowhead) DECORATIONS Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Streamer embroidered 17 OCTOBER 1944 to 4 JULY 1945
