I had just been assigned to an Arty liason position because I was getting short and my replacement had arrived to take over the Bn FDC Section. I remember my battery commander busting into my room with two ammo cans and shouting "Sgt. Handy get up, here's your weapon, your Cpt.'s weapon and a can of live ammo. Get your jeep, pick up the Capt. at the BOQ and get your butts to Camp Hovey. We were stationed at Camp Stanley and had to go to Hovey on alerts to hook up with the Bde Commander on alerts.We never found about the details of the attack until we were briefed by the BDE CO. when we arrived at Hovey.He put the Capt. and I in spare rooms in his personal Quansot hut and those were the only 3 days while I was in Korea that slept good in a decent bed.
