The best memories of serving in United States Army Europe & Seventh Army in the European Theater of Operations as a Cold War Soldier. The United States Army maintained peace through strength, training, equipping, and with this we were able to enforce it. This is not only kept the peace but prevented any Soviet Warsaw Pact Invasion through the Fulda Gap. The United States Army Fifth Armored Mobile Corps former adversary the Soviet 18th Guards based across the West German Fulda Gap deactivated 1991. The U.S. Army not a peacetime army due to the Vietnam War, the Korean War never ended because there was never a treaty, and the Cold War going on thirty years at my arrival. I was a combat soldier serving in the Mechanized Infantry at age seventeen, toting automatic/semi-automatic weapons, performing reconnaisance patrols, and sentry duties. All United States Military Servicemembers based in Europe were part of an initial invasion (force) should it have been necessary.
