2nd Infantry Division

1st Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne)
Second to None

The 1st Ranger Infantry Company (Abn) comprised part of the 1st cycle of the newly formed Ranger Training Command in Sept. 1950, at Ft. Benning, Ga. Volunteers were recruited from U.S. Army Airborne divisions and required to be parachute qualified, thus giving Ranger units an added new dimension. Upon graduation they became the first Rangers to be awarded the coveted black & gold 'Ranger Tab'. They were also the first 'Airborne Rangers' in Ranger history to be committed to combat. The 1st Ranger Co (Abn) engaged Communist North Korean and Chinese Communist Forces in combat from November 1950 thru August 1951, when all the Airborne Ranger companies serving in Korea were disbanded and their Ranger personnel sent to the '187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team'. 1st Ranger Inf Co (Abn) was awarded Three U.S. Presidential Unit Citations and two Korean Persidential Unit Citations during it's nine month combat tour in Korea.
