830th ENGINEER AVIATION BATTALION


Constituted 24 March 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 830th Engineer Battalion (Aviation). Activated 1 April 1942 at Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho. Redesignated 830th Engineer Aviation Battalion 15 August 1942. Departed the New York Port of Embarkation on 18 August 1942 and arrived in England 1 Sepetmber 1942. Committed to combat in the European Theater of Operations and landed in France on 3 July 1944. The unit was at Kitzingen, Germany at the end of World War II (15 August 1945 location). Served in the Army of Occupation of Germany from 2 May-31 October 1945, Inactivated in France on 20 November 1945. Allotted to the Organized Reserve Corps, assigned to Fourth Army, and affilitated with the Austin Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America, Incorporated, 15 July 1948. Activated 26 July 1948 with Headquarters in Austin, Texas. Affiliation agreement with the Austin Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America, Incorporated terminated 24 April 1953. HOME AREA: Texas (Hedquarters at Austin). CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION CREDIT Normandy Northern France Rhineland Central Europe DECORATIONS: None. BLAZONRY SHIELD: Argent, masoned sable, on a pile gules, a lion's queue erased fourchee and entwined or. CREST: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve: On a wreath of the colors (argent and gules) the Lexington Minute Man proper. The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H. H. Kitson, sculptor) stands on the Common at Lexington, Massachusetts. MOTTO: Strength Through Unity. SYMMBOLISM: The scarlet of the shield is for trhe Corps of Engineers. The functions of the organization are aptly illustrated in the wedge shaped pile scaling the masoned wall. The design of the entwined lion's tail is symbolic of the strength of the battalion, the lion being the king of beast. The masoned wall is representative of the engineering problems encountered by the battalion. The motto "Strength Through Unity" alludes to the symbol of the shield, the unity represented by the entwined lion's tail. DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNI (Official): The distinctive unit insignia is the shield and motto of the coat of arms as approved on 21 Novembver 1942. Unofficial: Unit Adopted insignia: A black ball winged white with a silver "8" on a white disc.
