McMurdo Station, Antarctica

McMurdo Station, commonly referred to as "McMudhole" by it occupants, is the largest US station in Antarctica. McMurdo is situated just off the main continent on Ross Island, sharing space with "Scott's Hut", New Zealand's Scott Base and Mt. Erebus. McMurdo is the logistic center of many US scientific operations on the Antarctic continent. Not many military and civilian personnel have set foot on the Antarctic Continent. Most, however, have spent their time at McMurdo base, supporting and providing services to the scientific communities in Antarctica since the very first "Operation Deep Freeze" expeditions of the early 1950's.
