124th ARMORED ENGINEER BATTALION (13th Armored Division)


Activated 15 October 1942 at Camp Beale, California and assigned to the 13th Armored Division. Departed the New York Port of Embarkation on 26 January 1945 and landed in France on 6 february 1945. Returned to the United States via the New York Port of Embarkation on 23 July 1945 for dutry in the Pacific Theater of Operations. The unit was at Camp Cooke, California at the end of World War-II (15 August 1945 location). Inactivated 12 November 1945 at Camp Cooke. CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION CREDITS: Rhineland; Central Europe. DECORATIONS: Meritorious Unit Commendation, Unit cited for period 15 November 1944-15 May 1945. Unit cited per GO 88, Hqs, 13th Armd Div, dtd 10 June 1945. DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNIA: Gules, a shield divided per pale dovetailed argent, in sinister chief a engineering sighting pole proper and in dexter base a plumb bob or. NOTE: This insignia design was received from Jim Sawicki and is listed as a Class E. It was never approved by he unit which was disbanded. SYMMBOLISM: Red and white are the brach colors of the Engineers. The dovetailed pale represents armored tracks and the other symbols engineering. Some insignia for sale at $4.00 each plus postage.
