Naval Air Station: Jacksonville, Fla.

NAS Jacksonville, Florida

I was stationed at NAS Jacksonville from 1971 to 1975. While there I was assigned to the Personnel Office. Once they found out what a "bullshooter" I was, they assigned me as Command Career Counselor, along with a MM1(SS) Steve Huffer. This is when the Career Counselor program was just getting started and it was an extremely rewarding assignment for both of us. At least three times a week we would sit in front of the Navy Exchange in our immaculate white uniforms with the "spit" shined shoes, the whole works!!! An example for all to emulate! We were very proud of the Navy and our jobs! Even the CO and XO would join us for a hot dog, and sometimes even a beer. Now THAT was Navy. There I served with great people like PNCM GRANT (SEA), BMCM PITTS (SEA), PN1 JERRY MILLER, YN1 GEORGE MCCUNE, PN1 HAP MARSHALL, PN2 LYNN FOUCHER and other super personnel, too many to mention. I will never forget my years at NAS JAX...
